PR No. 81 Pakistan and Uzbekistan sign MoU to enhance joint efforts against cor


Anti-corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ACAU) and the National Accountability Bureau of Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen mutual cooperation in the fight against corruption. The MoU signing ceremony was held on the occasion of two day visit of President of Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries to United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

The MoU was signed by Deputy Chairman NAB Mr. Sohail Nasir and Abdulaziz Kamilov, Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Uzbekistan.

The signed agreement provides a comprehensive framework for institutional coordination, cooperation and capacity building to prevent and combat corruption within the respective competencies of both agencies.

The contours of this mutual cooperation include information sharing with respect to trendy typologies and general methods of corrupt practices of both countries. It also commits to provision of technical and methodological assistance in addition to exchange of expertise & human resource personnel in areas like forensic, accounting assets investigation, forensic engineering & money laundering Capacity building and public awareness campaigns are also a major part of the cooperation. The heads of both anti-graft agencies expressed their confidence that the MoU will amplify institutional linkages and effectiveness of accountability mechanism in both countries.

Deputy Chairman NAB told the Media that corruption is a major obstacle to economic development and public trust. He emphasized that the transnational nature of the financial crimes & illicit assets requires strong bilateral cooperation among member states of UNCAC.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant step forward in Pakistan - Uzbekistan relations & mutual resolve of both nations to promote transparency and good governance.
