THE RELEASE OF 29 MALAYSIAN PARTICIPANTS OF THE GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA

THE RELEASE OF 29 MALAYSIAN PARTICIPANTS OF THE GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that all 29 Malaysians who took part in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission have been released on 21 May 2026 (Thursday).

All the Malaysians are safe and are currently in Istanbul, Türkiye, where they will undergo medical and health assessment prior to their return to Malaysia. They are expected to arrive in Malaysia on 24 May 2026 (Sunday).

The Government of Malaysia extends its gratitude to the Government of Türkiye for its facilitation and unwavering support throughout the process leading to their release and safe return.

The Ministry commends the commitment demonstrated by the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) and the Sumud Nusantara team. Although the humanitarian flotilla was prevented from reaching Gaza, the mission has succeeded in intensifying international condemnation of the illegal blockade imposed by the Israeli Zionist regime against Gaza, Palestine.

Malaysia remains committed to sustaining diplomatic engagement with international partners in upholding humanitarian principles and in advancing global solidarity towards the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine.
