IEA convenes experts on energy technology manufacturing and trade to assess competitiveness drivers ahead of new report

The IEA today convened around 70 experts on clean energy technologies and materials, from both the public and private sectors, as well as representatives from academia and civil society, to discuss emerging insights from the next edition of the flagship Energy Technology Perspectives report. The meeting provided an opportunity to gather feedback on the draft report and refine ongoing analysis.

Energy Technology Perspectives is the IEA's flagship technology publication, providing insights into the status and outlook for deployment, manufacturing, costs, affordability, project pipelines, investment and trade of energy technologies and materials. The next edition of the report looks at industrial competitiveness and supply chain vulnerabilities, analysing manufacturing costs and industrial policy impacts against the backdrop of a shifting trade and policy landscape.

Participants exchanged views about the context and outlook for manufacturing and trade of clean energy technologies including uncertainties and risks in global supply chains. Participants shared their key priorities and concerns for policy development and implementation as policy makers in countries around the world seek to define industrial strategies that can boost competitiveness and contribute to climate and energy security goals. The workshop was chaired by IEA Chief Energy Technology Officer Dr. Timur Gül.

Further details of the report launch will be shared on the IEA website in due course.
