Teen Litter Patrol Wraps Up Summer Cleanup

NEW BRUSWICK, NJ (August 17, 2025) - The City's Teen Litter Patrol has finished another productive summer, cleaning up local streets, parks, and waterways. The program, which concluded Aug. 8, combatted litter while providing participants with a valuable community service experience.

Throughout the summer, the teens cleared away a wide variety of debris. In one notable instance, a team of 10 students collected 220 bags of garbage from an overgrown area near a community garden on Tabernacle Way. The cleanup efforts tackled everything from routine trash like fast-food wrappers and beverage cans to more unusual items, including tires and old car parts.

The program, funded by a New Jersey Clean Communities Grant, also had an educational component, including a field trip to the Middlesex County Landfill in East Brunswick. The hard work of the teens did not go unnoticed, as residents frequently expressed their gratitude by offering cold drinks and appreciation.

Bill Malloy, who chaperoned the patrol, said the greatest reward was the visible improvement in the community. "The teens realize that this is their community, and they want a clean community," Malloy said.
