As the world's leaders gather in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly 2025, FAO is set to play a pivotal role in shaping global conversations on agrifood systems transformation. The FAO delegation, led by Director-General QU Dongyu, including key figures from Core Leadership and Division Directors, will be present throughout the week. Their numerous engagements reflect the Organization's commitment to fostering international collaboration to address urgent food security and nutrition-related challenges, as well as advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
FAO's involvement will begin on Monday, 22 September, and continue through Friday, 25 September. Highlights include the high-level event dedicated to FAO's Financing for Shock-Driven Food Crisis Facility on Tuesday, 23 September, where the Director-General and the Chief Economist will introduce the FAO-led facility to global and UN leaders. Other noteworthy events include the World Economic Forum Sustainable Development Impact Meetings, and the UN Private Sector Forum, where the Director-General is to deliver opening remarks.
In addition, FAO's Goodwill Ambassadors, the Harlem Globetrotters will team up with actress, dancer, entrepreneur and youth advocate, Monique Coleman, for a segment at the UN SDG Media Zone on Thursday, 25 September, to highlight the importance of youth-driven change in securing the future of agrifood systems.
