Washington County Behavioral Health and 4D Recovery are hosting a free community event on Saturday, August 29, 3-5 p.m. at the 4D Recovery O'Rourke Center, located at 362 SW Oak St. in Hillsboro, to raise awareness about overdose prevention.
The event aligns with International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31, a global effort to remember the lives lost to overdose, increase public awareness of overdose risks, promote access to resources, and increase compassion and hope for those in recovery.
"Overdose is preventable," 4D Recovery Regional Director for Washington County Candice Altman said. "We want to help community members feel more confident taking steps to save a life if they ever spot signs of an overdose."
Attendees will learn the signs of an overdose and how to administer naloxone, see a hands-only CPR demonstration, hear from an overdose survivor and first responders, and have an opportunity to honor and remember those who have died from overdose.
"While we are pleased to see that overdose deaths in Oregon have decreased over the last two years, we know we still have a long way to go," said Matt Conrad, senior program coordinator for Washington County Addictions. "Preventing drug overdoses and ensuring those most at risk receive the services and supports they need requires hard work across many fronts. Our partnerships with organizations like 4D Recovery are crucial to bringing our community together to learn how to prevent and respond to overdoses, helping to better keep our loved ones safe."
All are welcome at the event. Pizza will be provided. No RSVPs needed. For more information, call .
