LM Site Manager Stephen Pitton presents to partners from the Northern Arapaho Tribe April 28, 2026.

The Office of Legacy Management (LM) is proud to announce the release of a new video showcasing critical upgrades to the Alternate Water Supply System (AWSS) at the former Riverton Processing Site in Wyoming.

This vital project demonstrates one of many effective partnerships LM has with its Tribal partners. LM has significantly enhanced the reliability and longevity of the water system serving homes and businesses near a former uranium and vanadium ore-processing mill.

Teaming with the Northern Arapaho Tribe, LM launched the AWSS upgrade project in 2022, with engineering design and construction completed in 2025. This collaborative effort addressed all identified issues, ensuring effective long-term operation and maintenance.

"Two of the well pumps were not functioning, and the third was barely hanging on and hardly pumping enough water to supply the system. The upgrades to the system, including the new pumps, were critical to keeping the system running," said Northern Arapaho Natural Resource Office Director Dean Goggles.

LM's longstanding partnership with the Northern Arapaho Tribe ensured the project's success, said LM Site Manager Stephen Pitton.

"Our team really embraced effective engagement for this project," Pitton said. "An initial community meeting, direct communication with residents during planned shutoff periods, and coordinated efforts during construction were all part of this collaborative federal-to-Tribal relationship that ensured a smooth project progression and safe completion of the upgrades."

LM also had the opportunity to present a summary of project activities, accomplishments, and challenges to Tribal partners from the Northern Arapaho Business Council (NABC) and the Northern Arapaho Natural Resources Office on April 28.
