Honoring the 2026 HCAD Alumni Association Award Recipients

Kevin Ormand M'98 (left) and Amanda Thrash M'09 (right) will be honored Friday, October 16, 2026, with the Duce Award and the Momentum Award, respectively, by the Trinity University Health Care Administration (HCAD) Alumni Association.

The HCAD Alumni Association will gather for a panel discussion from 3 to 4 p.m. in Chapman Auditorium on Trinity's campus. The annual dinner and awards ceremony honoring the recipients of the 2026 Duce and Momentum Awards will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Korbell Great Hall inside the Chapman Center. The Duce Award honors a graduate of the HCAD program who has shown outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the field of health services administration. The award is presented annually and is named after Dean Leonard A. Duce, a former dean of the graduate school at Trinity and one of the program's founding faculty members.

The Momentum Award recognizes career professionals age 40 and younger for outstanding achievements in the field of healthcare management.

"Each year, the Duce and Momentum Awards allow us to celebrate the outstanding impact of our alumni," says Ed Schumacher, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Health Care Administration. "We are incredibly proud of their achievements and grateful for the example they set for current and future students."

The HCAD program invites individuals and companies to help recognize alumni achievements and support the continued success of the HCAD program by sponsoring this year's event. The Duce Award

Kevin Ormand M'98

Ormand is a managing partner at Chartis, a mission-driven healthcare consulting firm committed to materially improving healthcare. As a member of the firm's executive leadership team, he has contributed to the firm's exponential growth, with the firm tripling in size in the last six years. Chartis serves 1,900 organizations across the United States, including 18 of the 20 best hospitals in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings, and all 10 of the top 10 children's hospitals.

Within Chartis, Ormand leads an expansive performance transformation line of business, which consists of clinical, financial, and operational consulting experts focused on helping clients create a path to long-term sustainability. Ormand leverages deep expertise in health system operations, management consulting, process redesign, and technology enablement. He and his teams help ensure that academic medical centers, multi-facility/multi-regional integrated delivery networks, pediatric facilities, and non-traditional healthcare provider organizations have the financial strength and strategic roadmap to achieve sustainable performance and provide a better future for patients, staff, and the communities they serve.

Prior to joining Chartis 12 years ago, Ormand was the revenue cycle solution line director at Leidos Health, where he provided strategic advisory services to large, complex healthcare organizations. He also served as senior director of revenue cycle and director of finance for the Seton Family of Hospitals. Earlier in his career, Ormand held leadership roles at Phase 2 Consulting, Children's Health, Quantum Innovations, and several HCA facilities.

An active member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives, Ormand is also an accomplished speaker and author. His presentations and publications have included "Launching a Revenue Cycle Automation Strategy," "Driving Improvement to Your Bottom Line: Commonly Untapped Opportunities to Begin Tackling Now," "The Next Strategic Imperative: Rethinking Revenue Cycle Transformation," "In the Journey from Volume to Value, Are You Realizing Your Full Revenue Potential?," and "Now Is the Time for Ambulatory Centralized Scheduling," among many others.

Ormand earned a master of science in health care administration from Trinity University and a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a dedicated Trinity True donor.

Ormand and his wife, Tina, live in Austin, Texas. He is the proud father of Allison and Robert and stepfather of Christian and Sydney.

The Momentum Award

Amanda Thrash M'09

Thrash, a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, has served as president of Texas Health Allen since July 2022. Thrash has primary oversight of daily operations and responsibility for the 88-bed hospital's annual operating plan.

Thrash previously served as vice president, professional and support services, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano. Her tenure with Texas Health extends much further, though. She started at Texas Health Dallas as an administrative resident in 2009, moving to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano in 2010. She became administrator of Texas Health Neighborhood Care & Wellness Prosper in 2016, serving in that role for two years.

Over the span of Thrash's career, she has focused heavily on market strategy, physician relationships, and streamlining hospital operations. Most recently, Thrash has been successful in advancing patient experience, improving perioperative efficiencies, and growing the heart and vascular and women's service lines.

Thrash is the 2023 recipient of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council's Young Healthcare Executive of the Year Award and was among the "50 Rising Stars Under 40" from Becker's Hospital Review. She was recognized by Star Local Media as a Woman of Inspiration Class of 2024 for Allen and Fairview, and she was also recognized as a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Dallas Business Journal in June 2024. She recently received the Allen Chamber of Commerce Top 20 Under 40 Award for 2025.

In her spare time, Thrash enjoys spending time with her husband, Bucky, and their son, Beau, and daughter, Shelby. They love cheering on the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs during football season and entertaining friends in their home.
