Despite the unprecedented challenges to both universities and international education, UCLA is and will remain a global university. Our university naturally has a 'glocal' vision and the week's activities reflect UCLA's commitment to deepening its impact, both globally and within the city of Los Angeles. This commitment is cemented in one of the goals of the UCLA Strategic Plan, "to expand our reach as a global university," which informs the UCLA Connects flagship initiative.
Many members of the UCLA community bring deep connections to numerous world cultures and local diaspora communities, which enrich campus life. And the research conducted at UCLA - whether in the social sciences and humanities, medicine, economics, life sciences, environmental sciences, engineering, the arts or other fields - has direct impacts on people in Los Angeles and across the globe.
As the host of International Education Week, the International Institute supports a campus ecosystem that educates Bruin students to become global citizens in today's complex world. It offers a broad range of undergraduate degree programs in international studies (global studies, global health, international and area studies, international development and international migration) and three master's programs (African, East Asian and Latin American studies). The institute also houses 22 individual centers and programs dedicated to specific world regions and global issues, which regularly offer free public events.
