WASHINGTON-Today, the House passed the Critical Mineral Dominance Act, legislation led by Rep. Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) to restore American leadership in critical mineral production, strengthen national security, and end the United States' reliance on foreign nations.
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) and Rep. Stauber released the following statements:
"America cannot secure its national or economic future while being held hostage by foreign countries," Chairwoman McClain said. "Critical minerals are essential to our defense, manufacturing, and energy independence. To buy American we need to mine in America, and this bill puts America back in the driver's seat."
"H.R. 4090 passing the House is a major step toward ensuring our domestic critical mineral dominance and breaking China's control of global critical mineral supply chains," Rep. Stauber said. "By codifying the Trump Administration's executive orders into law, we will help ensure the United States is a place where we can mine, process, and refine the critical minerals needed to compete and win in the 21st Century, regardless of future administrations. I thank my colleagues for their support-this bill sets the stage for Senate action and a stronger, more self-reliant America."
The Act establishes U.S. mineral dominance by codifying President Trump's executive actions to prioritize and streamline critical mineral development on federal lands and directs the Department of the Interior to immediately expedite permitting for priority mining projects.
