Rep. Gabe Vasquez Statement on Vote Against the Republican Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C.- On September 19, 2025, U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (NM-02)issued the following statement on his vote against the Republican Continuing Resolution (CR):

"A government shutdown is harmful, and it's critical that we find a bipartisan solution that works for New Mexico. I cannot vote for a bill that skyrockets health care costs, forces rural hospitals to close, and takes health care away from New Mexicans who depend on it. Already, families can't afford their prescriptions, seniors are choosing between a gallon of milk and a shot of insulin, and veterans can't get the specialty care they've earned.

Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the administration - and they're choosing to leave New Mexicans behind. I'm eager to work with Republicans on a budget that addresses the real needs of Americans - one that protects the healthcare of working class families.

There is still time for real compromise and negotiation. I will continue to push for, and would support, a responsible, bipartisan agreement that keeps our rural hospitals open and healthcare costs down," said Vasquez.

This summer, Vasquez visited Socorro General Hospital, where staff warned that the Republican tax law threatens access to care for expectant mothers. He also visited Carlsbad Medical Center and heard from hospital leadership about how the tax law will limit access to care, raise insurance premiums, and worsen the provider shortage in the state. Vasquez has cosponsored legislationto reverse healthcare cuts and called on Congressional leadershipto permanently extend ACA tax credits.
