UC Named a “Best School for Men in Nursing” For the Third Year

The American Association for Men in Nursing has named the University of Charleston as one of its "Best Schools for Men in Nursing" for the third year in a row.

The award recognizes a nursing school or college that actively recruits and retains men in nursing, provides a supportive educational environment for male students, and educates faculty, students, and the community about the contributions men have made and continue to make to the nursing profession.

UC is the only West Virginia school to be named on the list. Other recipients include Duke University School of Nursing, George Washington University School of Nursing, Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and University of Virginia School of Nursing.

"We are incredibly proud to be recognized as a School of Excellence for Men in Nursing for the third consecutive year, particularly as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of nursing education at UC," said Pam Smith, Assistant Professor and BSN Program Coordinator at UC. "Our male nursing students are an important part of that legacy, bringing their own perspectives, leadership, compassion, and commitment to the profession. It is especially rewarding to see that connection continue beyond graduation, as our male alumni remain engaged with the program and serve as mentors, preceptors, and role models for current students."

The University of Charleston offers a broad portfolio of nursing programs at the Charleston campus, Beckley location, and online, including an Associate Degree in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN to BSN, Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner, and Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice programs.

This year's Homecoming & Family Weekend will honor the university's legacy of nursing education with a 60-year reunion celebration for all Morris Harvey College and UC nursing students and alumni.
