VSP Ventures and UC Berkeley Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry Announce 2026 Dr. Craig Hisaka Memorial Scholarship Winner

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - Today, VSP® Ventures, in collaboration with UC Berkeley Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science announced Sarah Huh as the recipient of the 2026 Dr. Craig Hisaka Memorial Scholarship.

The annual $2,500 scholarship honors a UCB student who has completed the VSP Business Management Immersion Program (BMIP). Selection is based on a reflective essay outlining the student's experience and key learnings. Huh, Class of 2028, was selected as the 2026 recipient for her thoughtful and insightful reflections.

"I've always been interested in private practice, but the VSP Business Management Immersion Program completely transformed how I see my future in the field," said Sarah Huh. "The mentorship I gained was a turning point in my education, building both my confidence and my commitment to a career in optometry. I'm incredibly grateful for the support and investment in students like me."

Dr. Hisaka was a strong advocate of private practice and mentored optometry students to help them achieve their goals of becoming private practice owners. He founded Brookside Optometric Group, now a VSP Ventures practice, which was the first practice to be part of the BMIP.

"The Dr. Craig Hisaka Memorial Scholarship reflects VSP's ongoing commitment to supporting and investing in the next generation of optometric leaders," said VSP Ventures President Kathleen Steele. "We congratulate this year's recipient, Sarah Huh, on earning this well-deserved recognition. The future of private practice optometry is bright."

To date, VSP Vision has provided more than $4.3 million in scholarships to optometry students. To learn more about scholarship opportunities, visit: https://www.vspproviderhub.com/scholarships.html.
