The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this morning convened members of his Cabinet to bid farewell to his long-time colleague & friend, H.E. Amb. @souefmo_elamine, the outgoing Chief of Staff of the Commission, who has been appointed as the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Central Africa.
The Chairperson expressed profound appreciation for Ambassador Souef's distinguished service to the AU & to the continent, noting his invaluable contributions across a range of leadership roles, particularly in the fields of peacebuilding.
The Chairperson described Amb. Souef as a statesman of exceptional wisdom & a distinguished diplomat whose leadership, sound judgment, & commitment to dialogue have helped navigate some of the continent's most complex challenges with tact, discretion, & professionalism.
H.E. Mr Youssouf further commended Souef for his unwavering dedication to the AU Commission, underscoring that his service as Chief of Staff had strengthened the institution & contributed significantly to advancing its mission & strategic objectives.
While wishing him every success in his new responsibilities at the UN, the Chairperson affirmed that Amb. Souef would remain part of the AU family, whose legacy of service & commitment to Africa will continue to inspire future generations.
