DGA Chair Laura Kelly Statement on Republicans' Government Shut Down

Today, DGA Chair Kansas Governor Laura Kelly released the following statement on Republicans' decision to shut down the government rather than bring down health care costs:

"Last night, President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress chose to shut down the government and force millions of Americans off their health insurance instead of working across the aisle to lower costs and protect health care. Today, families across the country, including over 200,000 Kansans who get their health care through the Affordable Care Act, are waking up and being forced to deal with the consequences of these partisan games. What's worse is that it is all preventable.

"Republicans in Washington have created a health care crisis that is ripping away health care from millions of Americans while jacking up costs and forcing rural hospitals to close their doors, and now they've shut down the government instead of working to fix it. My message to Congressional Republicans is simple: stop the nonsense and work to protect the people you serve."
