BMW Seized Following Drag Racing Conviction

Traffic Unit officers last night seized a 2001 BMW 325i sedan from its owner, Kashmere Black-Draine, 27, following her conviction for drag racing in accordance with T.C.A. 55-10-502: The vehicle was seized upon reasonable belief it was used to commit the offense of drag racing, or to flee after commission of the offense of drag racing , and is upon conviction for the offense, subject to seizure and forfeiture as provided in Title 40, Chapter 33, Part 1 of the Tennessee Code Annotated (T.C.A.).

Black-Draine was arrested on February 24th after officers on West Trinity Lane saw two vehicles driving at a high rate of speed, side by side, in excess of 80 m.p.h. A vehicle stop was initiated and Black-Draine admitted to driving recklessly. In addition to drag racing, she was charged with resisting arrest, driving on a revoked license, driving without insurance, marijuana possession, and reckless driving. She received a one year probated sentence for the drag racing conviction.
