The City of West Hollywood, in partnership with Ascencia, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community open house at the newly completed Holloway Interim Housing Program site, located at 8464 Holloway Drive on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. RSVP is requested via Eventbrite at go.weho.org/holloway-openhouse. The Holloway Interim Housing Program will provide comprehensive services and a supportive space for people experiencing chronic homelessness to transition into stable housing.
"In West Hollywood, our community is grounded in compassion, care, and action and the Holloway Interim Housing Program reflects the very best of our values," said City of West Hollywood Mayor Chelsea Lee Byers. "By transforming the former Holloway Motel, we are creating not only safe and supportive interim housing, but also a place where people experiencing homelessness can find services, stability, and hope as they take their next steps toward permanent housing. We're deeply grateful to our partners at Ascencia, whose expertise and dedication make this work possible. I warmly invite community members to join us at the open house to see firsthand how the City of West Hollywood is shaping solutions."
The Holloway Interim Housing Program will provide a safe, supportive space for people experiencing chronic homelessness to stay 90 days, giving residents support and time to transition off the streets and into housing. The property will be managed and operated in partnership with Ascencia, a nonprofit homeless services agency that will provide comprehensive case management and supportive services and uphold safety for program participants.
Ascencia has partnered with the City of West Hollywood since 2016. It brings both expertise in developing and operating interim housing and experience providing supportive services that help people get back into homes of their own. Services at The Holloway will include: housing search assistance and financial planning; employment readiness and job support; healthcare and nutrition; community activities and social engagement. The program will be staffed 24/7 and provide onsite safety services.
In June 2022, the City of West Hollywood received a $6-million Homekey grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development. Following this award, the West Hollywood City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the former Holloway Motel, which was subsequently renovated and is now opening as the Holloway Interim Housing Program. The program is supported through a combination of State and County resources with additional funds from the City's Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
The acquisition and conversion of the Holloway Motel reflects the City's long-standing commitment to partnering with local agencies to deliver essential social services to individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. The Holloway Interim Housing Program is designed to be responsive to the specific needs of community members, building on the City of West Hollywood's history of compassionate and inclusive service delivery.
The City of West Hollywood recognizes that homelessness and housing insecurity are shaped by a complex mix of current and historical factors. The day-to-day impacts of homelessness are felt acutely in West Hollywood by people experiencing homelessness, community members, visitors, businesses, and other stakeholders.
In response, the City of West Hollywood continues to invest in, and collaborate on, diverse solutions to homelessness. The City's Human Services Division leads the West Hollywood Homeless Initiative, a multidisciplinary and collaborative effort to address homelessness. This initiative brings together various City departments, City-funded social service agencies, law enforcement partners, Los Angeles County agencies, the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and other partners to deliver a wide range of services. These efforts aim to prevent and reduce homelessness in West Hollywood and support individuals experiencing chronic homelessness by connecting them with trusted, personalized resources. The Holloway Interim Housing Program is one element of the City's response to addressing these challenges.
To request a welfare check, outreach, or connection to services for a community member who is experiencing homelessness, please call the West Hollywood Homeless Concern Line at (323) 848-6590, which is answered live 24/7.
