Gurney, Wertz Earn All-American Honors in Historic Season for Muskingum Football

Muskingum football seniors Conner Gurney and Foster Wertz capped off outstanding careers by earning All-American honors following exceptional 2025 seasons, marking a historic year for the Fighting Muskies.

Senior linebacker Conner Gurney was named a Second Team AFCA Division III Coaches All-American after anchoring the Muskie defense throughout the season. A four-year starter and team captain, Gurney finished the year with 86 tackles (second in the Ohio Athletic Conference), 11.5 tackles for loss (third in the OAC), and two forced fumbles. He also earned First Team All-OAC honors.

Gurney closes his career with 206 tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and one interception. His honor marks Muskingum's first AFCA All-American since 2019 (Tim Ousley). The AFCA has named All-America teams since 1945, with selections made exclusively by college coaches across all divisions.

On the offensive side of the ball, senior offensive lineman Foster Wertz was named a Third Team All-American by D3football.com. Wertz anchored one of the OAC's top offensive lines, helping power an offense that averaged 383.2 yards per game and finished second in the conference in passing offense with 2,596 yards. Earlier this season, he earned First Team All-OAC and First Team All-Region 4 honors.

Wertz becomes Muskingum's first D3football.com All-American since 2019. The D3football.com All-America team, first awarded in 1999, is one of only two All-America teams officially recognized in the NCAA record book, along with the AFCA All-America team.

With Gurney and Wertz earning All-America recognition, Muskingum celebrates its first season with multiple All-Americans since 2000, a milestone achievement for the Fighting Muskies program.
