On June 6, MaineGeneral Medical Center celebrated the completion of the expansion of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours of the new space.
Standing alongside patients, staff, donors and community partners, we were reminded that this project represents far more than a building. It reflects our shared commitment to providing exceptional cancer care close to home. Among the improvements, we're able to provide wrap-around and support services all under one roof, helping to meet the needs of cancer patients where they are already receiving treatment. The expanded center will allow us to serve more patients and meet the growing needs of our region for years to come.
We're also celebrating the expanded reach of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care by adding a new satellite clinic and formally launching a partnership with St. Mary's Health System, alongside existing collaborations with Redington-Fairview General Hospital and MaineHealth Franklin Hospital. All hematology/oncology patients continue to begin at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care specialty hub, where they receive an oncologist consultation and a coordinated care plan before returning to their home communities for treatment. Each satellite clinic is staffed by a Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care Advanced Practice Practitioner who manages patient care in collaboration with designated oncologists. This model strengthens access, quality and continuity of care, allowing the center to support patients close to home while extending its impact across the region.
Thank you to everyone whose hard work, vision and dedication made these milestones possible.
