Rotterdam, the Netherlands, December 4, 2025 - VTTI B.V., a global leader in energy infrastructure, has opened a market consultation for recovered carbon black (rCB) as part of the VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp project at its existing terminal VTTI Antwerp, Belgium. The initiative marks an important milestone in VTTI's commitment to addressing the global waste challenge and supporting the energy transition.
Pyrum, a leading expert in recycling waste tyres through pyrolysis, will act as VTTI's development partner, and provide its proprietary, patented pyrolysis technology. Pyrum's pyrolysis oil and rCB are used by renowned industry partners, including BASF, Continental, and Schwalbe. As a result, VTTI will produce rCB aligned with the specifications of Pyrum's flagship facility in Dillingen, Germany.
The market consultation, commencing on 4 December 2025, invites interested parties to submit an Expression of Interest for the offtake of rCB by 18:00 CET on 20 January 2026, marking the first phase of commercial engagement.
EVP Growth, Tom Smeenk commented: "Through VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp, we are advancing a solution that transforms waste tyres into valuable resources, supporting industrial decarbonisation while addressing a global waste challenge. This market consultation is an important opportunity for us to engage with potential customers, explore expected market developments, and build partnerships that shape circular solutions with real and lasting impact."
Pascal Klein, CEO of Pyrum Innovations AG stated: "We are proud to support VTTI as they initiate this market consultation. The rCB that will be produced at the TyreLoop facility is based on Pyrum's proven formulation and process, enabling consistent, high-performance material suitable for demanding industrial applications. This market consultation is an important step in expanding circular solutions within the tyre value chain, and we fully endorse VTTI's efforts to accelerate this transition."
The market consultation aims to confirm perceived market interest and identify key customers for the use of rCB and to determine the best strategic fit through a balanced offtake portfolio that aligns with the project's objectives and VTTI's long-term vision. This development supports VTTI's broader strategy to grow its presence in transitional and sustainable energies, underscoring the company's commitment to expanding global infrastructure that drives the circular economy and energy transition.
VTTI TyreLoop Antwerp involves the construction of a state-of-the-art pyrolysis plant capable of recycling waste tyres. The facility will produce approximately 18kt of rCB annually, alongside tyre derived oil (TDO). Leveraging advanced pyrolysis technology from Pyrum, the project will deliver high-value secondary raw materials that can replace virgin fossil-based feedstocks in industrial applications.
