By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:
WHEREAS, the health and well-being of the people of Virginia are strengthened by increased awareness and understanding of 4p- syndrome, including Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome; and
WHEREAS, children with 4p- syndrome are often born with low birth weight, experience developmental delays, and face significant medical challenges while maintaining warm and engaging personalities; and
WHEREAS, dedicated professionals continue vital research to develop new therapies, diagnostic tools, and improved interventions for individuals with 4p- syndrome; and
WHEREAS, the 4p- Support Group estimates that approximately 1,000 individuals in the United States have 4p- syndrome, though many remain undiagnosed; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the citizens of Virginia to support research, advocate for effective diagnostic screenings, and recognize the invaluable role of families and advocates in advancing awareness and understanding of this rare disorder; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth joins others across the nation in promoting a special observance to raise awareness and improve outcomes for individuals with 4p- syndrome and their caregivers;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, do hereby recognize April 16, 2026, as 4p- / WOLF-HIRSCHHORN SYNDROME AWARENESS DAY in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
