PGRO Shares YouTube Update as Pea Bruchid Confirmed in UK Crop for First Time

The Processors and Growers Research Organisation (PGRO) has confirmed the presence of pea bruchid in a UK-grown commercial pea crop for the first time, marking a significant development for the UK's pulse sector. The pest, which is a regular problem for growers in continental Europe, was discovered in a sample grown on a farm in Cambridgeshire following an unusually warm, dry spring.

To help growers and industry stakeholders understand the implications and next steps, PGRO has released a short YouTube video update: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/sUCmkIUGjds

The video outlines what to look for, how to prevent infestation, and what to do if pea bruchid is found in crops.

PGRO has long warned of the potential for this pest to establish in the UK, and this year's conditions appear to have enabled it to complete its lifecycle here for the first time. The organisation is encouraging vigilance, reporting, and coordinated action across the sector.
