Non-communicable diseases (NCDs)-including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory diseases-account for more than 75% of global deaths annually, yet receive only 1-2% of global health financing. The U.S. Chamber's Global Initiative on Health and the Economy (GIHE) has released a new framework for addressing this critical gap through strategic public-private partnerships.
Mobilizing the Private Sector for Impact
The report, Unlocking Access for Non-Communicable Diseases: A Results-Focused Framework for Integrating the Private Sector and Creating Shared Value, outlines how effective collaboration between public and private sectors can accelerate progress across the entire NCD care continuum-from prevention and screening to diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management.
Key Opportunities Identified:
Overcoming Barriers
The report addresses critical challenges limiting private sector engagement, including regulatory barriers, limited inclusion in policy decision-making, and operational constraints. It provides actionable recommendations for governments and partners to create enabling environments that sustain private sector investment while ensuring equitable access for all populations.
Developed with input from Chamber member companies across the biopharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostics sectors, this framework offers a roadmap for leveraging private sector innovation, resources, and expertise to combat the growing global NCD burden.
