The City of Gaithersburg has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the Fiscal Year 2027 beginning July 1, 2026, from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. Gaithersburg is receiving this award, the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, for the 25th consecutive year. The award is officially presented to the Department of Finance and Administration. The FY27 budget document also received special recognition for the City's Capital Program.
The City had to satisfy nationally-recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
"We are extremely proud of this significant achievement," said Janice Hartman, Director of the Department of Finance and Administration. "This award affirms the dedication and commitment to excellence of the City staff who worked diligently to prepare an accurate budget that is easily understandable by all of the City's stakeholders."
Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 25,000 members and the communities they serve.
