Governor Hochul and PGA of America Announce Three Elite Golf Championships Coming to New York State

Bethpage State Park To Host 2033 PGA Championship and Expected to Host 2028 KPMG Women's PGA Championship

Oak Hill Country Club Will Host a Fifth PGA Championship in 2035

Governor Kathy Hochul and the PGA of America today announced that New York State plans to host three landmark professional golf championships over the next decade. Bethpage State Park's famed Black Course in Farmingdale expects to welcome the 2028 KPMG Women's PGA Championship and the 2033 PGA Championship, while Oak Hill Country Club outside Rochester will host the 2035 PGA Championship. The announcement comes as New York State prepares to host the 45th Ryder Cup next week at Bethpage State Park.

"New York State is further establishing its reputation as one of the best golf destinations in the world by welcoming the PGA of America for this marquee lineup of elite golf competition," Governor Hochul said. "The announcement underscores the attraction of New York's world-class venues and our ability to host major sporting events, which, in turn, boost local economies and highlight our great state. I will be particularly excited to welcome for the first time the top women golfers to Bethpage State Park and pleased our relationship with the PGA of America will continue for years to come. We look forward to welcoming so many elite golfers, spectators and television viewers of these world-class competitions taking place on a global stage right here in New York."

PGA of America President Don Rea Jr., PGA Master Professional and Owner/Operator of Augusta Ranch Golf Club (Arizona) said, "The PGA of America is incredibly proud to be returning to New York and two world-class venues in Bethpage Black and Oak Hill Country Club. Bringing the KPMG Women's PGA Championship to Bethpage Black will be a significant milestone and reflects our commitment to staging this event at premier courses in major markets. The Black Course tested the strongest field in golf in 2019, delivering a memorable PGA Championship and promises to do so again in 2033. Oak Hill has long proven itself as a premier Major Championship venue, with the East Course presenting a stern challenge that consistently produces memorable moments. These three Championships will add to our Association's extensive history in the state of New York, and we cannot wait to see the world's best players compete on Long Island and in Rochester."

The lineup represents the first time the KPMG Women's PGA Championship will be held at a public golf course when it comes to Bethpage Black in spring of 2028. The PGA Championship will return to Bethpage for the first time since 2019. State Parks and the PGA have fully agreed to terms related to the 2033 PGA Championship and are near final agreement concerning the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Oak Hill Country Club will host the PGA Championship for a fifth time in 2035. Bethpage State Park will host 250,000 spectators for the Ryder Cup, where the top golfers from the United States take on those from Europe Sept. 26-28 on the Black Course.

New York State Parks Commissioner Pro Tempore Randy Simons said, "There is no better showcase for publicly accessible golf in the country than Bethpage State Park. We could not be more excited for the Ryder Cup to begin next week on Bethpage Black, which promises to be a thrilling competition for golfers and spectators alike. I'm grateful to Governor Hochul and the PGA of America for providing Bethpage State Park and its dedicated staff more opportunities to host these world-class golf events and again demonstrate how the New York State park system is a national treasure."

Hosting these major events at Bethpage requires State Parks to commit resources to prepare the venue. In addition, State Parks has worked with PGA on terms that include lower or no host fees. The 2035 PGA Championship at Oak Hill is being supported by $3 million in grants from Empire State Development. These funds will assist with public transportation and site restoration, and enable I LOVE NY to promote regional tourism destinations and Taste NY products. Events like these support regional economies; the 2023 PGA Championship was estimated to generate $190 million in economic impact.

Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said, "New York State is incredibly proud of its continued partnership with the PGA of America and its members. Large scale, world-renowned events like these showcase our beautiful state to a global audience, drawing attention to all the wonderful things that make New York truly unique, while supporting small businesses and business owners in host communities. Ahead of next week's Ryder Cup competition, today's announcement demonstrates New York's commitment to hosting championship-caliber golf at its world-class courses over the next 10 years."

Oak Hill Country Club President Ron Billitier said, "We are extremely grateful for our partnership with the PGA of America, and we are excited to bring the 2035 PGA Championship back to Oak Hill Country Club. The East Course, our membership, and the Greater Rochester community welcome the opportunity to test the World's best golfers in an iconic and world-class setting here at Oak Hill. Having recently hosted our fourth PGA Championship on the restored East Course, we're confident our fifth will set a new standard and honor a worthy champion. I'd also like to thank Governor Kathy Hochul for her leadership and commitment to supporting major championship golf in our great state."

Since the founding of the PGA of America in 1916 at the Wanamaker Store in Manhattan, and the first PGA Championship held that same year in Bronxville, New York State and the PGA have shared a distinguished history. No state has hosted more PGA Championships than New York, including recent successes during the 101st Championship in 2019 at Bethpage State Park and the 105th Championship in 2023 at Oak Hill Country Club.
