Washington, D.C. - Last week, Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08) hosted a telephone town hall with more than 15,000 listeners where he answered questions on pressing issues in Maryland's Eighth District, including Trump's continuing attacks on immigrants and federal workers, the degradation of our public health infrastructure, and the National Guard deployment in D.C. and beyond.
"Trump's dictator-style tactics and assault on the federal workforce have left many of our people angry and despondent," Rep. Raskin said. "This invigorating discussion with more than 15,000 of our neighbors provided solid information and a dose of real hope as we discussed ways to protect our families and communities and to keep fighting for democracy and the rule of law every day. My staff and I are using every tool available to defend targeted populations and to fight for our freedoms."
Since the beginning of the Trump Administration, the president and DOGE have sacked thousands of MD-08's 55,000 federal workers. During the call, Rep. Raskin spoke directly to civil servants about how he is fighting in the courts on their behalf as Co-Chair of House Democrats' Litigation and Response Taskforce.
Rep. Raskin took questions on how the Trump Administration is harming immigrant communities with masked agents in unmarked cars taking our neighbors off the streets; how we can protect Medicaid in the face of $1 trillion in cuts passed by the Majority in Congress; how to work to counter Republican gerrymandering; and how people can stay engaged and perseverant in the fight for democracy.
MD-08 constituents can receive help with a federal agency through Rep. Raskin's office by completing a form on his website. The Congressman has also compiled a list of resources for those affected by the Trump Administration's policies.
