Permanent Representative of Armenia participated in the side event organized on the CBD Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) and Other Provisions Related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities

Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, H.E. Mr. Paruyr Hovhannisyan participated in the side event organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity entitled "Key Outcomes of the First Meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) and Other Provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity Related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities," held on the margins of the 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.

In his remarks, Ambassador Hovhannisyan presented the priorities of COP17 Armenia's Presidency, emphasizing that Armenia aims to ensure an inclusive and participatory Conference by ensuring full and constructive engagement of Parties and stakeholders, including representatives of Indigenous Peoples and local communities, across all areas of the Conference's work.

It was underscored that key deliverables of COP17 will include the institutionalization of the Subsidiary Body on Article 8(j) and Other Relates Provisions Related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, the operationalization of the Cali Fund that will directly benefit Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, as well as the first global review of progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
