The City of Mesa announces Erik Guderian as the new Director of the Transportation Department. Guderian has supported the Transportation Department as Interim Department Director since March 2025, following the passing of former Department Director RJ Zeder, and Guderian officially transitioned to the permanent role on Dec. 2, 2025.
"Erik brings the foundational expertise and institutional knowledge needed to lead the Transportation Department to the next level. I am confident in his leadership, and we are fortunate to have someone who has earned the trust of both staff and community stakeholders. His appointment ensures a seamless and positive transition for the department," said Mesa City Manager Scott Butler.
With over 20 years of transportation engineering and planning experience, Guderian has focused on building and maintaining transportation infrastructure that enables residents to reach their destinations safely on a daily basis.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve the residents of the City of Mesa and to work alongside our outstanding Transportation Department team," said Guderian. "Together, we will continue to maintain and grow our transportation network that allows everyone to move safely and efficiently to the places that matter most to them within our City."
Erik has worked for the City of Mesa's Transportation Department since 2015, most recently as the Assistant Transportation Director. Prior to his work with the City of Mesa, Erik worked for the Town of Gilbert, AZ and as a transportation consultant in Denver, CO.
