IPA President speaks at Tunis International Book Fair.
IPA President, Gvantsa Jobava attended the Tunis International Book Fair where she participated in panels and workshop as well as meeting IPA's local member.
In the first session, Reconfiguration of book professions in the face of AI, moderated by Karim Harbaoui (President of SAFAHAT Association), Jobava noted the diversity of the publishing sector and the adoption of AI. She underlined however, that while publishers will always adopt new technologies, AI companies must respect copyright and secure licenses for their use of copyrighted works in their training data.
Later that day, Jobava participated in a workshop on the transformations brought about by artificial intelligence.
The second day of Jobava's participation saw her contribute to a session on Digital Piracy and Intellectual Property Rights alongside representatives of different ministries (Culture, Education) and other creative industries in Tunisia and beyond. Jobava underlined the huge challenge that phyiscal and digital piracy continue to present to publishers. Strong copyright laws with effective enforcement mechanisms are essential.
