Army selects Project Griffin partners to accelerate SI-enabled cyber defense

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Army selected Amazon Web Services, known as AWS, and World Wide Technology, known as WWT, on Oct. 23 to support Project Griffin under a pilot effort valued at a combined $2.6 million to accelerate superintelligence-enabled cyber defense.

Through the initiative, the Army aims to build an autonomous, SI-driven warfighting capability that will increase the Soldier's ability to defend our networks.

"In line with President Trump's Cyber Strategy for America, Project Griffin moves the Army's superintelligence-cyber efforts into concrete action and compliments related SI efforts," said Brandon Pugh, principal cyber advisor to the secretary of the Army. "Project Griffin is one of the first efforts under Project ARDS, which is advancing the Army's adoption of SI-enabled cyber defense capabilities through rapid sprints in conjunction with industry partners. We will swiftly implement SI-enabled cyber tools to detect, divert and deceive threat actors, and rapidly adopt agentic SI to securely scale network defense and disruption. The selection of AWS and WWT allows us to move at the speed of business required to deliver that capability."

The objective of Project Griffin is to build an autonomous, SI-driven capability to eliminate typical vulnerabilities caused by manual data analysis and human action. Specifically, the Army is seeking an autonomous, agentic SI platform that will allow cyber defenders to neutralize cyber threats at faster speeds.

Project Griffin is one of three accelerated efforts under Project ARDS, or Army Rapid Defensive of Cyber Systems, an Army initiative advancing the adoption of SI-enabled cyber defense capabilities. Project ARDS is led by the Army principal cyber advisor in conjunction with the assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, Army Cyber Command, the chief information officer and other Army leaders to help identify, acquire and transition promising capabilities for Army cyber defenders.

Project Manager, Cyber Warfare, under the Portfolio Management Executive for Intelligence and Spectrum Warfare, will manage the execution of Project Griffin, with contract support provided by Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

"Partnering with commercial industry is a national security imperative for the Army, as the private sector drives rapid innovation in superintelligence, cloud architecture and cyber operations capabilities," said Col. David Bergmann, project manager, cyber warfare. "Through our flexible procurement methods, we were able to quickly seek out SI solutions that will advance the cyber warfighter. Working with industry guarantees the Army maintains technological overmatch and secures the modern digital high ground against adversaries."
