At approximately 10:12 a.m., Fairfield Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported natural gas leak near 1510 West Texas Street. Crews arrived on scene and confirmed a break in a 1.5-inch gas line caused by nearby construction activity.
As a precaution, depending on their proximity to the leak, nearby businesses and homes were either evacuated or placed under a shelter-in-place order, with evacuations coordinated by the Fairfield Police Department. PG&E personnel arrived on scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. and successfully secured the gas line.
No injuries were reported.
In this case, the gas leak was secured before a Nixle alert was distributed, but the system remains an important tool for notifying the public during emergencies. The Fairfield Fire Department encourages residents to sign up for both Nixle and Solano County's Alert Solano system to stay informed:
Both alert systems help keep residents informed when emergencies occur. For more information, contact Deputy Fire Chief Rich Llewellyn at (707) 716-5107 or email [email protected].
