The Mayor and Board of Trustees recently approved a contract with Airy's, Inc. for the Flossmoor Road Sanitary Sewer Relocation Project, which will relocate the 15-in. sanitary sewer that currently runs down the Central Drive alley, under the Civic Center building, and out to Sterling Avenue. The new sanitary sewer will run from the Central Drive alley across the vacant Village-owned parcel just west of 2609 Flossmoor Road, out to Flossmoor Road, and east to the existing sewer at the intersection of Flossmoor Road and Sterling Avenue. To accomplish this, a section of Flossmoor Road (from Leavitt Avenue to Sterling Avenue) will be closed to local traffic only from Monday, Sept. 22, to Friday, Sept. 26. Residents in the closed section will have access to their buildings. A road detour will be in place during the closure next week using Sterling Avenue, Hawthorne Lane and Leavitt Avenue. Work is expected to take place from 6 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays for approximately two weeks, weather pending. Saw cutting is expected to begin this Friday, Sept. 19, using flaggers to direct traffic.
The Village realizes this has been a very busy construction season, particularly in the downtown area, and we appreciate your cooperation, patience and understanding as we make these improvements to our community. If you have any questions, please call the Public Works Department at 708-957-4100.
