Raleigh Transportation Completes 2026 Bridge Inspections

This week, Raleigh Transportation is wrapped up inspections of 65 bridges as part of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) program.

What do inspectors look for?
During inspections, crews check key parts of each bridge, including the foundation, bearings, and joints. They also look for issues like chipped concrete, small repairs, and areas that may need cleaning or paint. These may seem like minor fixes, but they help extend the life of a bridge and keep people safe. After inspections, engineers review each bridge and decide if any maintenance or repair work is needed.

Based on past inspections, the Century Drive Bridge is scheduled for repairs, including repainting the structure. Similar to the hydro-demolition project recently completed on Yadkin Road, this work will require temporary lane closures. The project has been awarded to American Contracting Services.

Raleigh Transportation also has contracts out for bid to complete minor repairs on nine bridges across the city:

• Atlantic Ave. - Structure #910342
• Brooks Ave. - Structure #901346
• S. State St. - Structure #911085
• Corporation Pkwy - Structure #911351
• Sellona St. - Structure #911459
• Angel Falls Rd. - Structure #911456
• Angel Falls Rd. - Structure #911453
• New Falls of Neuse - Structure #911346
• New Falls of Neuse - Structure #911347

Did you know?
Traffic on Raleigh bridges can vary significantly. Some bridges carry about 680 cars a day, while others, like Atlantic Avenue, see more than 22,000 drivers daily.

As maintenance work begins, Raleigh Transportation will keep the community updated. Some projects will require temporary lane closures, and updates will be shared in advance to help residents plan ahead.
