Trump Administration Announces $8 Million for 28 Rural Healthcare Providers to Strengthen Healthcare Across Texas
These investments will support the rural healthcare workforce, improve medical equipment and facilities, and help prevent and manage chronic disease across Texas
Today, the Trump Administration announced $8 million in Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) funding to 28 rural healthcare providers through the Rural Texas Strong initiative. This investment will support chronic disease prevention, improved health outcomes, recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, and medical equipment and facility improvements to expand access to high-quality care across rural Texas.
This transformational funding will help rural providers prevent and manage chronic conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic respiratory disease; recruit and retain physicians, emergency medical personnel, and other healthcare professionals; replace aging medical equipment; and improve existing facilities. Together, these investments will help rural providers maintain essential services and bring quality healthcare closer to home for rural Texans.
The Rural Health Transformation Program is expanding access to quality healthcare, regardless of a patient's ZIP code, while equipping first responders with the lifesaving resources they need when every second counts. This funding will make critical investments to strengthen rural healthcare, expand access to lifesaving services, and bring modern technology to communities across Texas.
"President Trump understands that every American deserves high-quality healthcare, no matter where they live," said Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. "We are putting resources directly into rural communities to strengthen the health workforce, modernize infrastructure, expand access, and bring care closer to home. We are giving states the flexibility to build solutions around the people they serve, while demanding accountability for results. That is how we strengthen rural health, improve the lives of patients and families, and Make America Healthy Again."
"President Trump made a historic commitment to rural America, and these investments are turning that commitment into better care for patients in communities across Texas," said Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. "This is what rural health transformation should look like: federal investment that is putting patients first, driving lasting improvements and expanding healthcare for the hardworking Americans who call these communities home."
Today's investment was made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act - passed by Republicans in Congress and unanimously opposed by Democrats - delivering a historic $50 billion investment to help states transform the way healthcare is delivered in America.
"Your address should not determine the quality of care you receive," said Gov. Greg Abbott. "Rural Texas will not be left behind. This more than $8 million investment will expand access to care, strengthen facilities across Texas communities, and help to recruit and retain the next generation of healthcare professionals."
"The Working Families Tax Cuts Act made the single largest investment in rural health care in more than two decades," said Sen. John Cornyn. "I was proud to support this legislation, now law, to establish the Rural Health Transformation Program, and I am glad to see this additional $8 million in funding to help Texans access care across the Lone Star State."
"This investment is critical to Texans, and I applaud CMS and Administrator Oz for approving it. The decision is a recognition that the needs of rural Texas communities should be met, and these resources will strengthen rural hospitals, expand access to high-quality care, and help Texans in every part of our state get the healthcare they need. I was proud to work alongside my colleagues in the Texas delegation to secure this funding," said Sen. Ted Cruz.
"Strong rural healthcare starts with the doctors, nurses, and staff who keep our clinics open, and this funding will help Texas providers recruit and retain them. More families will get quality care close to home, and I was proud to secure this funding through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act," said Rep. Nathaniel Moran.
"Where you live shouldn't determine the quality of care you receive. This $8 million investment in workforce development, community-based care, and facility improvements will expand access to affordable, high-quality healthcare for underserved rural communities across Texas," said Rep. Lance Gooden.
"I'm grateful that Texas is receiving another record investment in rural healthcare. Too many rural Texans still face long drives and limited options when they need care. This $8 million investment through the Rural Texas Strong initiative will help them recruit and retain healthcare workers, prevent chronic disease, and upgrade critical facilities and equipment, putting care closer to home for rural Texans. Healthy communities are strong communities, and I'm grateful to CMS and our state partners for making this happen," said Rep. August Pfluger.
"Rural Texans deserve access to quality healthcare, no matter where they live. This investment through the Rural Health Transformation Program will help strengthen rural hospitals and healthcare providers, recruit and retain skilled medical professionals, and improve access to the equipment and resources patients need. By investing in rural healthcare in TX-13 and across Texas, we can improve health outcomes, better manage chronic diseases, and ensure rural communities across Texas have a stronger, healthier future," said Rep. Ronny Jackson.
"Healthcare access is a challenge for rural Texas, making this investment a major win for our state. By fighting chronic illness, training future doctors, and supporting local providers, these funds ensure every Texan can access the care they need," said Rep. Monica De La Cruz.
"We won't have the next generation of agriculture and energy producers providing America with food security and energy independence without access to basic health care in rural communities. That's why we established the Rural Health Transformation Program through the One Big Beautiful Bill, securing a historic $1.4 billion investment for Texas. I'm proud to see the Trump Administration continuing to deliver through this program, now with $8 million for 28 rural health care providers across our state, including Sudan Medical Clinic in Lamb County. By strengthening our rural health care workforce, modernizing facilities and equipment, and expanding access to care, we're securing a healthier, stronger future for Rural Texas," said Rep. Jodey Arrington.
"The Rural Texas Strong initiative, made possible through the Working Families Tax Cuts, will help expand access to health care in rural communities across our great state. I'm proud to see the work we did through H.R. 1 making a difference for rural Texans," said Rep. Roger Williams. "I am especially pleased to see this investment support Best Value Medical Center Pharmacy in Glen Rose, Texas, bringing additional resources to our district."
"This $8 million investment is a big win for rural Texans, including families right here in the 31st Congressional District who will benefit from funding coming to Marble Falls. Rural communities are the backbone of Texas, and they deserve the same opportunity to receive quality healthcare. President Trump understands that a healthier America starts with stronger communities, and this investment puts that commitment into action. I'm pleased to see federal resources making their way to Central Texas, where they can make a meaningful difference for hardworking families," said Rep. John Carter.
"As a health care professional and lifelong resident of Southeast Texas, I've seen firsthand the needs of rural America. This latest investment of more than $8 million to Texas rural health care providers through the Rural Health Transformation Program will strengthen the workforce, improve medical equipment and facilities, support chronic disease prevention, and expand access to quality care for families across our state, ensuring that their quality of care is not determined by their ZIP code," said Rep. Brian Babin.
Today's announcement is one part of the larger overall funding amount awarded to Texas for fiscal year 2026.
Key initiatives the overall RHTP funding will focus on include:
The Trump Administration is delivering on its commitment to strengthen rural America by investing in solutions that modernize technology to promote health and well-being for rural communities. Led by CMS, the RHTP is moving beyond the failed one-size-fits-all approach and giving rural communities the tools to build stronger, more innovative, and more sustainable health systems that deliver better care and better outcomes for the Americans they serve.
