Argall, Walsh Announce More Than $625,000 in State Grants for Luzerne County

HARRISBURG - State grants totaling more than $625,000 were awarded to communities in Luzerne County today. Sen. Dave Argall (R-29) and Rep. Jamie Walsh (R-117) worked with local leaders to secure this funding.

"I am pleased to see these highly competitive funds coming back to our local communities, improving infrastructure and public facilities for local residents," said Argall.

"I appreciated working with Sen. Argall to advocate for this funding," said Walsh. "These grants help alleviate the financial burden on our municipalities and taxpayers by supporting needed safety and infrastructure improvements."

  • Foster Township was awarded $200,000 to convert a vacant recycling center into a multi-use community center.
  • Freeland Borough was awarded $200,000 to install new sidewalks, curbing, ADA ramps, lighting and enhanced crosswalks at the 300 block of Centre Street.
  • The Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority was awarded $225,000 on behalf of the Greater Wyoming Valley YMCA to construct a new dining lodge at Camp Kresge in Dennison Township.

This funding was awarded through the Local Share Account Statewide program, which distributes gaming revenue to projects that support community and economic development.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania's economic development and community improvement programs.
