BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University Foundation is pleased to announce that President Emeritus Mary Ellen Mazey has created three endowed scholarships to assist BGSU students with their tuition.

Mazey served as the 11th president of BGSU and is a first-generation college student who personally knows the importance of tuition support. She was fortunate to have support for her undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees.

All three scholarships will be awarded to students in the BGSU College of Arts and Sciences who demonstrate financial need. The scholarships are named in honor of the extraordinary work of the following six individuals:

  • The Richard (Dick) and Nadine Edwards endowed scholarship will be awarded to students in the School of Media and Communication. The scholarship's name recognizes Dick and Nadine Edwards for their accomplishments in the Bowling Green community, including Dick's service as a BGSU administrator and mayor of the city of Bowling Green, where he led and developed the city's roundabouts and The Green, as well as their support of the Wood County District Public Library.

  • The David J. Jackson and Lori S. Liggett endowed scholarship will be awarded to students in the School of Media and Communication and the Department of Political Science. The scholarship's name recognizes David Jackson, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Political Science and internationally recognized scholar, and Lori Liggett, Ph.D., teaching professor in the School of Media and Communication, who is praised by her students for her dedication to their learning and success.

  • The Margaret M. Yacobucci and Kefa Otiso endowed scholarship will be awarded to students in the School of Earth, Environment and Society. The scholarship's name recognizes Margaret M. Yacobucci, Ph.D., professor of service excellence in the School of Earth, Environment and Society, who has worked to recruit more women in the sciences, and Kefa Otiso, Ph.D., professor of geography and service excellence in the School of Earth, Environment and Society and the director of the Global Village, who has led development work in Kenya.

Mazey's goal is to encourage alumni, colleagues, supporters and friends to support these scholarships with a donation that honors the work of these six outstanding individuals who have given years of work and dedication to BGSU and the city of Bowling Green.
