Denton Fire Department Earns Highest Rating for Fire Protection and Response

Denton, TX, Sept. 16, 2025 - The City of Denton is proud to announce that the Denton Fire Department (DFD) has earned the highest possible rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO) - Class 1 Public Protection Classification (PPC). The designation, which takes effect October 1, 2025, places DFD among the top 1% of fire agencies nationwide, based on the department's capabilities in fire suppression, emergency medical services, and community risk mitigation. As a result, property owners in Denton may see reduced insurance premiums, with savings of up to 1-2% on commercial and residential policies.

This upgrade from the previous Class 2 rating (established in 2018) is the result of investments outlined in the City's Strategic Plan, including enhanced training programs, equipment upgrades, improved infrastructure collaborations, and upgraded dispatch systems.

"Our team has worked tirelessly to elevate our services, ensuring faster response times and better outcomes for our community," said Fire Chief Kenneth Hedges. "We're honored to deliver this level of protection to Denton residents and businesses. The Class 1 rating not only underscores DFD's operational readiness but also brings tangible benefits to the community."

This achievement builds on recent successes, including DFD's perfect-score accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) in August 2025 and Commission of Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) accredited agency status conferred in 2023.

In recognition of this accomplishment, the City Council will present a formal proclamation honoring DFD during today's meeting at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall (215 E. McKinney St., Denton, TX 76201). The public is invited to attend and celebrate this proud moment for Denton.
