Pinellas County's younger generations connected with local history during a youth civic season celebration at Heritage Village Museum & Park on Saturday. The free community event combined Heritage Village's 50th anniversary with the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary with the theme, "Illuminating the Past, Inspiring the Future."
The day kicked off with Pizza & Partner Exploration hour. Attendees discovered local volunteer, leadership and community involvement opportunities while enjoying complimentary pizza.
The event transitioned to a Youth Voices Panel. Two youth leaders, including a member of the University of Florida/IFAS Extension Youth Advisory Council and participant in the Smithsonian Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange, shared fresh perspectives on advocacy, leadership and their hopes for the future of America.
"With America's 250th anniversary arriving just as the largest generation of young people in history enters adulthood, connecting them to our roots is how we keep our heritage alive," said Monica Drake, Historical Museum Operations Manager for Pinellas County Parks & Conservation Resources.
Heritage Village will celebrate its 50th anniversary alongside the nation's 250th milestone during its All-American Bash on July 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit heritagevillagefl.org/50thanniversary for more information.
