Temporary Greenway Trail closure in Monument Valley Park begins Oct. 12

Construction on the historic Cache La Poudre/Mesa Road Bridge requires a temporary closure of the Greenway Trail on the west side of Monument Creek for up to four weeks beginning Monday, Oct. 12. The closure is necessary so crews can use a crane to lift concrete deck panels into place and perform other heavy construction.

Closure barricades will be placed on the trail at the Duck Pond north of the Cache/Mesa bridge and at the pickleball courts south of the bridge.

Guidance for park and trail users:

  • Southbound trail users should cross Monument Creek via the Uintah Street bridge to use the eastern leg of Greenway Trail.
  • Note that the Greenway Trail on the east side of Monument Creek will remain open during work, with the same short pedestrian detour currently in place.
  • Northbound trail users should cross Monument Creek at the pedestrian bridge toward the south end of the park to use the eastern leg of the trail.
  • Visitors to the pickleball courts may enter the park by motor vehicle via Glen Avenue and use the parking lot west of the bridge or approach on the trail from the south.
  • Visitors to the Horticultural Art Society Demonstration Gardens may enter the park by motor vehicle via Glen Avenue. A small limited-use portion of the trail will remain open near those destinations.

Construction started in April to replace the bridge deck and maintain structural elements on the 90-year-old bridge. Other work includes improvement of drainage and bridge lighting, all while refurbishing the bridge's Art Deco features. The focus of the project is to enhance access and safety of the historic bridge.
