MaineGeneral Health is pleased to announce the expansion of its Horizon Program, which provides comprehensive services for people living with HIV/AIDS. With this expansion, the Horizon Program's service area grows from nine counties to 14, adding Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Washington Counties.
Ryan White Part C Early Intervention Services (EIS) Program funding to expand into the additional counties was awarded from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The funding ensures services continue seamlessly after the Regional Medical Center at Lubec decided to stop providing services through the EIS Program.
"We are grateful for the cooperation of the Regional Medical Center at Lubec and the support from HRSA to meet this critical community need," said Jennifer Riggs, MaineGeneral Chief Nursing Officer. "The Horizon Program builds on decades of work in health care, health promotion and disease prevention for people living with HIV/AIDS, and we are honored to extend these services to more communities in Maine."
The Horizon Program, the Regional Medical Center at Lubec and other regional organizations have worked closely to support a smooth transition. This collaboration ensures that individuals continue to have access to vital medical care, medications and support services without interruption.
"We are pleased to collaborate with MaineGeneral Health to ensure that community needs continue to be met. MaineGeneral provides exceptional service, and we appreciate their willingness to expand their program reach," said Tom MacDonald, CEO of Regional Medical Center at Lubec.
MaineGeneral has been serving the HIV/AIDS community since 1989. In 2003, MaineGeneral developed the Horizon Program with HRSA Ryan White Part C EIS funding. With this expansion and incorporation of Northern Maine region, MaineGeneral is now one of two Ryan White Part C EIS providers in the state of Maine.
