Premier calls for legislative review of special defense procurement bill

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that two major bills-the central government's 2026 general budget proposal and the draft special act on procurement to enhance defensive resilience and asymmetric capabilities-have yet to be referred by the Legislative Yuan for committee deliberation. Given the evolving international situation and the unprovoked intrusions of military vessels and aircraft by the Chinese Communist Party, the need to reinforce Taiwan's defense resilience and preserve national security has never been more pressing. The special act on procurement proposed by the Ministry of National Defense is specifically intended to address these developments. The premier directed the defense ministry to proactively communicate with all legislative caucuses and promptly clarify any factually incorrect statements, thereby preventing misinformation from spreading and compromising national security.
