Middle and high school students explored the worlds of cybersecurity, robotics and artificial intelligence during Lamar University's Cybersecurity and Robotics Adventure Summer Camp, held June 29 through July 2.
Offered by Lamar University's Department of Computer Science and the Center for Data Analytics and Cybersecurity, the camp was open to incoming students in grades 6 through 10. The four-day program gave participants hands-on experience with emerging technologies through interactive lessons, collaborative projects and demonstrations.
Participants worked alongside Lamar University faculty and mentors to explore topics including coding, robotics, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The program was designed to spark interest in technology careers while helping students build problem-solving, teamwork and critical-thinking skills.
"This camp gave students an opportunity to experience cybersecurity, robotics and artificial intelligence in a fun, hands-on environment," camp director Dr. Sujing Wang said. "By engaging them with real-world technologies and collaborative projects, we hoped to inspire the next generation of innovators and help them see the exciting possibilities that STEM education can offer."
The camp also highlighted Lamar University's commitment to STEM education, community engagement and workforce development by providing students with early exposure to high-demand career fields.
"We were excited to welcome students to campus and introduce them to the innovative learning opportunities available at Lamar University," Wang said. "Programs like this helped build curiosity, confidence and a strong foundation for future success in STEM."
The Cybersecurity and Robotics Adventure Summer Camp is one of several summer programs offered by Lamar University that provided students with opportunities to explore academic disciplines through experiential learning.
