Vindman Calls on Congress to Fully Ban Members from Trading and Owning Stocks, Criticizes GOP’s Sham Proposal

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today released the following statement after voting against a sham Republican proposal to suppress voters and allow Members of Congress to keep and trade the stocks they already own.

"I've been clear that no elected official should be able to profit from the information they gain from being in office. Republican's fake stock bill still allows Members of Congress to own and trade individual stocks and does nothing to address the rampant corruption in DC.

"I sold my stocks before coming to Congress - and I firmly believe every Member of Congress, president, vice president, Supreme Court justice, Cabinet official, and senior government leader should do the same. Public service should be about serving the people - not managing a personal investment portfolio or getting rich off of insider knowledge.

"We owe it to the American people to root out corruption at the source instead of partisan moves to put a fig leaf on it. That's why I'm calling on Speaker Johnson to bring my bill requiring full divesture and banning stock trading for all senior government officials up for a vote now."
