Short notice closures for Kona low recovery

HONOLULU - The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is issuing updated closures information for recovery work on Farrington Highway in Waialua, Pali Highway heading toward Kailua and Kalanianaʻole Highway at Makapu'u. This work is to support recovery from the March Kona low pressure systems and was not included in HDOT's weekly lane closures for the week of March 28 to April 3.

Farrington Highway in Waialua

• There will be no nightly closures of Farrington Highway between Thompson Corner and Otake Store on the nights of April 1 and 2. This crew will be conducting overnight drainage and road repair on Pali Highway.
• There will be daytime closures for stream work and removal of flood debris at the following dates and times:
  • Thursday, April 2 - 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, April 3 - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 4 - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• The night work for road restoration on Farrington Highway will be from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Friday, April 3 to Thursday, April 9. After the work on Farrington Highway is completed, the crew will move on to the state-owned portion of Kaukonahua Road.

Pali Highway Kailua-bound past Waokanaka

• The two left lanes on Pali Highway Kailua-bound past Waokanaka Street will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the nights of Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2. These closures are necessary to complete drainage repairs causing persistent potholes.

Kalanianaʻole Highway at Makapu'u

• The Hawai'i Emergency Management Agency (HIEMA) will be closing one lane of Kalanianaʻole Highway south of the Sea Life Park entrance on Thursday, April 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to remove a falling outdoor warning siren.
• Traffic will be maintained in both directions through alternating traffic control (contraflow) in the remaining lane.

HDOT thanks the public for its patience and understanding as work continues to repair the roads and associated infrastructure damaged in the Kona low storms.
