June 29 North Cascades Fires Update

Date:
June 29, 2026

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. - Fire behavior remains minimal on the four fires within North Cascades National Park Service Complex with slight moisture and cooler temperatures across the area. All four fires are located north of Little Beaver Creek and west of Ross Lake in steep, rough, and forested terrain. A cool and unsettled weather pattern will continue throughout the week with occasional showers. There is a slight chance of lightning today and tomorrow. A gradual shift to more seasonable temperatures and drier conditions is expected by the holiday weekend.

Firefighters have been demobilized from the ½ acre Borderline Fire following work over the last few days to control and contain the fire. Six smokejumpers were inserted into the Borderline Fire area on Friday, June 26 for suppression efforts.

The Little Beaver Fire is 1 acre. Yesterday six firefighters were boated up Ross Lake to hike into the fire area. Firefighters will continue to be supported by a Type-3 helicopter using aerial delivered water until pumps and hoselay are in place to continue suppression actions.

The Rigby and View Fires (both approx. 1/10 acre) continue to be supported by aviation resources. Yesterday the Rigby Fire received 13 cycles of aerial water delivered from a Type-3 helicopter. There was no smoke observed yesterday on the View Fire. Air reconnaissance will continue and aerial delivered water will support the fires as needed.

There are no new closures or evacuations in place for the fires on the park complex. All visitor and information centers, areas, campgrounds, and trails are currently open to the public.

Fire Restrictions: Fire restrictions are in effect beginning Monday, June 29. Campfires or the ignition of wood, briquettes, or any fuel in fire pits, fire pans, and barbeque grills, are banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex. Gas or propane stoves, grills, or lanterns are permitted in campgrounds and wilderness areas for the use of cooking if there is no flammable material within three feet of the device.

Smoke Outlook: Smoke may be visible from various locations around the Ross Lake area of the park complex. Air quality can change quickly. For current smoke information, visit: https://fire.airnow.gov

Air Space Restrictions: Drones are prohibited in the area, especially during emergency fire response. If you fly, we can't. Every time a drone is spotted near the fire all aircraft are grounded until we can be sure the drone is clear of this area: http://knowbeforeyoufly.org
