Made possible through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, the improvements reflect the City's continued commitment to investing in neighborhood parks, enhancing recreational opportunities, and creating safe, accessible, and welcoming public spaces for residents and families.
The CDBG-funded project includes several significant upgrades designed to improve the park experience for the surrounding community:
Renovated Restroom Facilities: Comprehensive renovations include a new stucco exterior finish, tiled interior finishes, upgraded fixtures and amenities, improved lighting, and roof system repairs. These enhancements provide visitors with more modern, functional, and welcoming facilities.
Reconstructed Basketball Courts: Two basketball courts have been completely reconstructed, featuring new basketball goals, bleachers, and improved court access. These upgrades expand opportunities for youth recreation, organized sports, and community engagement.
Improved Pedestrian Accessibility: Approximately 1,000 linear feet of new, eight-foot-wide concrete sidewalks have been installed to improve pedestrian connectivity, accessibility, and safe movement throughout the park.
The CDBG program supports investments in eligible low- and moderate-income communities, helping municipalities improve public facilities, strengthen neighborhoods, and expand access to essential community amenities.
Neighborhood parks play an important role in bringing people together, encouraging physical activity, and enhancing residents' overall quality of life. Through these improvements, Driskell Memorial Park is better equipped to serve the recreational needs of the community while providing a well-maintained space for residents and families to enjoy for years to come.
The project was coordinated through the City's Parks & Facilities Department in collaboration with other City departments and contractors.
The City of Palm Bay remains committed to strengthening its park system through strategic investments that address evolving community needs, improve public infrastructure, and ensure neighborhood parks remain accessible, functional, and welcoming for future generations.
Community members are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and join the City in celebrating these improvements to Driskell Memorial Park.
