Deceased pedestrian identified after August 7 crash at North Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard

On August 7, 2026, at 4:52 a.m., Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers responded to the area of North Powers Boulevard and Palmer Park Boulevard for reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash. Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevy Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on North Powers Boulevard when it struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Palmer Park Boulevard.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the nature of the crash, detectives from the Major Crash Team were notified and assumed the investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

On August 13, 2026, CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the deceased pedestrian has been identified as 40-year-old Tracey Yost.

This incident marks the 39th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 34 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 58 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
