Best thing about Longwood?
I LOVE the traditions. Getting my scarf each year, going to Oktoberfest and Spring Weekend, Color Wars, going to basketball games and spending all of my bonus dollars on Chic-Fil-A is what I feel like makes Longwood the special place it is.
One professor or staff member who you couldn't have done it without?
I started out in Dr. Jake Milne's sociology 105 class and have taken all but two classes that he offers. He is an engaging professor that cares about what his students are doing inside and outside of the classroom. Whenever I see him on campus, he is always wanting to talk about how classes are going or what my next steps are after graduation.
One unforgettable experience you had at Longwood?
Definitely the Brock Experience in New Orleans, which was not only fun but really insightful. This Brock Experience focused on a city with a complicated past and explored topics like tourism, environment, music, food and statue removal. We ate so many different traditional New Orleans foods and listened to jazz music at Preservation Hall. This experience taught me how to look at a place through different perspectives and to be a respectful tourist. My favorite part of the trip was when we did a second line. It was fun seeing professors dance and seeing all of the traditions that second lines hold.
Longwood in three words?
Unexpected. Neverending. Fun.
I am ready for career success because…
The field-based experiences that Longwood facilitates. I have done three internships and those have helped shape my skills and made me into a true citizen leader. My internship in Longwood's Office of Institutional Advancement was particularly impactful and helped me gain important skills that I'll need in my job. The Office of Career Success has an amazing staff who are always willing to look over résumés, cover letters, or just calm my anxieties about the job search (thanks Megan Miller!).
