Congresswoman Escobar Reacts to Latest Data on Republican Healthcare Premium Increases

Today, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16) released the following statement after data was published by the House Budget Committee on the impacts of Republicans choosing to let Affordable Care Act tax credits expire:

"Donald Trump and Republicans swore to the American people that they would lower costs yet have made life more expensive and difficult for hard-working Americans. Over the past nine months, they've repeatedly broken their promise and appear eager to do so again.

"It's getting more challenging for El Pasoans to pay for things from food to utilities, and as prices for goods keep going up, I'm very concerned about the cost of healthcare which is about to skyrocket unless Congress acts. The tax credits that help Americans pay for Affordable Care Act coverage will go away at the end of the year, and this means millions of Americans won't be able to afford their healthcare anymore.

"Although we are in the minority, Democrats have offered a proposal to prevent this catastrophic increase, but Republicans and the president himself have walked away from the negotiating table.

"We are fighting for you, and we've told our colleagues they need to stop the cuts to healthcare funding that hurt the American people and work with us in a bipartisan manner to lower costs."

This week, the House Committee on the Budget published the following data on how the Republican refusal to address the soon-to-be ending healthcare tax credits will affect the country:
