Nearly 3,000 U.S. flags were on display in University Yard to remember those lost, including nine alumni.

The George Washington University honored the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001, on its 25th anniversary. There was a solemn ceremony Friday in University Yard, where carillon bells rang at both 8:46 a.m. and 9:37 a.m. in remembrance.
Nearly 3,000 U.S. flags were on display in University Yard to remember those lost, including nine alumni. A wreath honoring them was installed by their memorial plaque in Anniversary Park.
The nine alumni lost that day were: Sara M. Clark, M.A. '75; Andrew K. Friedman, B.A. '79; Melissa M. Harrington Hughes, M.B.A. '95; Robert F. Mace, J.D. '84; John P. O'Neil M.F.S. '78; Todd H. Reuben, J.D. '89; John Sammartino, B.S. '86; Andrew Stergiopoulos, B.A. '00; and James T. Waters, Jr. B.A. '84.
